New park opens in Bellevue

The opening of Surrey Downs Park was recently celebrated by the city of Bellevue.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was attended by over 300 people. Other festivities of the day included bubbles, soccer, kite-flying, and hot dogs.

Mayor John Chelminiak commented that this is a great neighborhood park in a very urban setting, with an excellent location next to the light rail and the downtown area.

The park is 10.5 acres in size and located just south of the downtown area. The park features a basketball court, playground, restrooms, picnic shelters, and parking. People at the park can have stunning views of Mount Rainer from its lookouts along the rolling hills. The park also has a large meadow, known as the Great Lawn with more space for picnicking, throwing a Frisbee, or kicking a ball. There is also a pedestrian path around it.

Flyer printing companies could be used by such cities to provide more information about amenities at such parks as well as any special events that might take place.

Bellevue acquired the property from the county in 2005 and has been working on developing the park for over 10 years. Once a master plan was developed for the park, the Parks and Natural Areas Levy allocated some funds for its construction, which began in April 2018 and took about a year to complete.
