New AI degree program offered in Bellevue

Bellevue College (BC) will be offering a new Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) degree in Information Systems and Technology (IST), with a concentration in artificial intelligence (AI).

The program will focus on the Python programming language, data analytics, machine learning, data modeling, and applied statistics, as well as libraries for AI. Those interested in the AI option need to have completed the required prerequisite courses or have completed the robotics and artificial intelligence associates degree. This will provide a way for those who want to finish their bachelor’s degree at Bellevue College. Brochure printing is often used to provide potential students with more details about such programs.

Dena Laney, program chair of the BAS IST degree, said that many are now reconsidering their careers as high-tech is still a field that is growing fast. Laney added that this degree offers a way for people to transition to a different career at a low cost, presenting them with an opportunity for potentially lucrative careers in the growing sector of AI.

Program manager for the information technology programs at the college, Alysa Kelsey, said that members of the advisory committee, which include those from Facebook, Amazon, and Microsoft, have recommended that the AI concentration be added.

This new program will begin in Fall 2022 when its first cohort arrives.
