Bellevue staff recognized for accomplishments

Three awards have been given to the Bellevue Parks and Community Services staff, courtesy of the Washington Recreation and Parks Association (WRPA).

Mary Boyle, Kim Indurkar, and Jennifer Brown, who work at the Highland Community Center in Bellevue, received the Ron C. Davis II Unsung Hero Award for their innovation and dedication in providing recreational opportunities to people who have disabilities. The Highland Community Center serves those with physical and intellectual disabilities, and provides opportunities for socialization, learning, and recreation, as well as programs in the cultural arts, fitness, sports, and recreation.

A Citation of Merit – Professional Award was given to Colin Walker, the marketing manager of Parks and Community Services. This award recognizes organizations and individuals for their contributions to the field of recreation and parks. Walker has been instrumental in developing and implementing the communications and marketing plan of the department. He has updated social media platforms, created an e-newsletter, performed analysis of program data, and researched customer satisfaction. Such work often requires brochure printing services to inform residents of programs and updates.

The Impact and Influence award was given to Michael Shiosaki, Parks and Community Services director. He has worked in the development of parks and recreation for 35 years and been a leader in this area across the state. This is the highest award the WRPA bestows on an individual.
