Bellevue recognized for transportation plan

The Washington State Department of Commerce has awarded Bellevue a Governor’s Smart Communities Award for 2022 for its Mobility Implementation Plan. This is a long-range framework that will enable officials from the city to determine the investments for projects in its transportation systems based on how people travel through town.

Local governments are recognized by this award for outstanding work in creating livable and vibrant communities in their achievement of the goals of the Growth Management Act. Bellevue’s plan was recognized in the category of smart projects as a successful implementation of a comprehensive plan. Announcements of such awards are often disseminated throughout a city with poster printing.

Andrew Singelakis, Transportation Director, expressed his honor in receiving this award as the city looks to a future of increasing multi-modal transportation where there are many modes of transportation from which the community can choose. He also thanked the state Department of Commerce and Governor Jay Inslee for recognizing the work of the Transportation Commission and its many partners. He added that the support and vision of the City Council has been important to this work in the city.

This is the first time that the Governor’s Smart Communities Award has been given to Bellevue Transportation. The presentation of this award will take place at a meeting of the City Council sometime in the fall.
