Bellevue drivers sought for volunteer program

Group Health Transportation Assistance Program in King County, which includes the city of Bellevue, is looking for volunteers to help drive senior citizens to doctors’ appointments.

This is an opportunity for locals who are interested in giving back to the community, since many senior citizens do not have the means to drive themselves to appointments, nor do they always have family available to assist.

Volunteers are paid for the mileage and can create their own hours based on their needs, meaning that a stay-at-home parent could volunteer while the kids are at school, or college students could help their community by volunteering to help while away from home and not able to be near their own families.

The volunteer schedule is flexible and volunteers are able to determine how often they want to help transport, and also the areas they are willing to drive to.

Local business could encourage their employees to volunteer, providing promotional materials advertising the volunteer efforts of their employees to promote their business. By using company vehicles with a Logo Design, provided by a local printing company, to transport the elderly to and from their appointments, companies can do a good deed while gaining exposure.

Those interested in helping should contact the Group Health Foundation at 206-326-2800 or send an email to resource.L@ghc.org. Volunteers do not need to be members of Group Health.
