The environmental reporting firm CDP recently honored PACCAR, based in Bellevue, as a global leader in environmental practices.
For its demonstration of reducing greenhouse gas emissions in its facilities around the world and in its business of commercial vehicles, the company was placed on the CDP Climate Change A List for 2018. Chief executive officer of PACCAR, Ron Armstrong, said that being placed on this list recognizes the ability of the company to achieve its goals in reducing emissions and in other environmental issues. This recognition places the company in the top 2% among the 6,000 companies that submit reports to the CDP. Companies that submit reports to the CDP receives scores from A to D depending on how effective they are in dealing with various environmental issues, including climate change.
As a designer and manufacturer of high-quality trucks, PACCAR looks to alternative technologies that can be used in the commercial vehicles it produces. Among the technologies in which it has invested are hybrid powertrains, hydrogen fuel cell, battery electric, and natural gas heavy duty vehicles. Environmental issues are also considered in the company’s factory operations, as 75% of its manufacturing locations are zero-waste-to-landfill facilities, and 93% are ISO14001 certified.
