The Bellevue Rotary Club has been raising money to fulfill a dream of opening an all-inclusive playground for area residents. The dream became a realty on Tuesday, June 21 when it broke ground for what will be known as Inspiration Playground.
The Bellevue Rotary Club expects to open the playground in the summer of 2017 and it will likely be a widely advertised event with Banners and Posters announcing opening day. The playground will be a gathering place for children and adults with varying abilities to enjoy entertainment and solitude in an inclusive environment.
Rotary members and committee members have worked with the city hall to fulfill this dream. The Rotary Club raised the money to cover the construction, and the City of Bellevue designed the plan and will maintain the park when it is completed.
Many parents of children with disabilities applaud the project and welcome the introduction of more inclusive facilities. The park will be wheelchair accessible and will even boast a sensory garden where children and adults with sensory disabilities can relax in a safe and serene environment.
Mayor John Stokes told those who attended the groundbreaking ceremony that this will be a project that “defines Bellevue” and will provide residents of Bellevue, King County and Washington a place they can call their own for years to come.
