The legendary group Styx was founded in 1972 in Chicago, with the original lineup comprising Dennis DeYoung, brothers John and Chuck Panozza, John “J.C.” Curulewski, and James “J.Y.” Young. After lineup changes, the band today has seven members.
The band made its debut in 1972 with “Styx,” but the real breakthrough came in 1976. Tommy Shaw replaced Curulewski and was on that year’s album, “Crystal Ball.” After that, they released four albums in a row that all went Triple Platinum: “The Grand Illusion” in 1977, “Pieces of Eight” in 1978, 1979’s “Cornerstone,” and “Paradise Theater,” which dropped in 1981.
Styx survived the public’s changing taste and regrouped for the 1996 “Return to Paradise” Tour, which appeared on both DVD and CD the following year. Starting with hard rock guitar and acoustic guitar, power ballads, and synthesizers, along with musical theater elements, they gradually added soft and pop rock into a sound that is unique. They have sold over 20 million albums on the A&M label alone. A review says:
“ . . . Styx . . . is a powerhouse outfit, wielding the most exciting aspects of progressive rock with radio-friendly hooks, riffs, and rhythms that set it apart from many of its peers.”
Styx will be at the Muckleshoot Events Center on March 8, at 8.00 pm. Performance venues like this traditionally use Posters to advertise shows, which they will find at Print shops.
