One of the biggest names in comedy, television, and pop culture will appear soon in Auburn.

Jay Leno is coming to Auburn, where he will appear at the Muckleshoot Events Center. Leno is probably best known for his work in late-night television, where he was the host of “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” from 1992 to 2009, and again from 2010 to 2014. An auto enthusiast, he regularly writes columns for “Popular Mechanics” magazine.

Leno was born in New Rochelle, New York, and began his career in comedy in 1973, when he started a comedy club in Boston while he was a college student. During the 1970s, he made guest appearances on television series such as “Good Times,” “Laverne & Shirley,” and “Alice.” He also appeared in films such as 1977’s “Silver Bears,” which starred Michael Caine. During this period, he appeared several times on “Late Night with David Letterman.”

In 1986, Leno regularly substituted for Johnny Carson as the host of “The tonight Show,” until he officially replaced Carson in 1992. Leno is known for his observational comedy, finding amusement in everyday life. He tends to avoid politics and divisive topics, making his shows relatable to everyone.

Leno is due in Auburn on September 6, and the venue is at 2402 Auburn Way South in Auburn. When they plan shows like this, organizers can work with brochure printing to create programs for audiences, who often keep them as souvenirs.
