UB40 was formed in Birmingham, England, in 1978. The original lineup comprised eight members: Ali Campbell, Jimmy Brown, Earl Falconer, Yomi Babayemi, Norman Hassan, Brian Travers, Jimmy Lynn, and Robin Campbell. The band was ethnically diverse, with musicians of Yemeni, Scottish, Jamaican, Irish, Welsh, and English descent.
The band has had great success, putting over 50 singles on the UK Singles chart, earning international fans, and selling over 70 million records around the world. They have received four nominations for the Grammy for Best Reggae Album, and in 1984, were nominated for the Brit Award for Best British Group.
Among their biggest hits are “Can’t Help Falling in Love” and “Red Red Wine,” both of which went to the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart as well as the UK Singles chart. Two of their albums, 1983’s “Labour of Love” and “Promises and Lies,” released in 1993, rose to the No. 1 spot on the UK Albums chart. A concert review says:
“As the night ends, the smiles on those reluctantly heading home reveal just how much UB40 is a source of joy for so many.”
UB40 will be at the Muckleshoot Events Center on April 24. Ali Campbell, who left the band in 2008, will be with the band at this performance. Colorful Posters are traditionally used to advertise events like this, and organizers can find them at Print shops.
