Parades, cookies, and Santa in Auburn

Auburn is getting ready to get the holidays started with a day of fun in early December.

The highlight of the day is the Lighted Santa Parade, an annual event featuring vehicles of all kinds decked out with as many lights as they can carry and still move. The lights can be placed on private cars and trucks, but police cars, fire trucks, and city buses have taken part in past events. Pedestrians are welcome as well, but everyone in the parade must display a light.

There will be live music at City Hall and there is a two-hour window for “Cookies & Crafts,” where children will be able to make holiday crafts and decorate cookies. The cost is $3 per child for those registered in advance, or $5 at the event.

The day ends with a visit from Santa, who is looking for one youngster to help him light the tree at City Hall. He will be choosing an assistant from those children from ages five to nine who have been nominated for the honor.

The celebration is Saturday, December 3. Cookies & Crafts is from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm, parade participants will start lining up at 3:30 pm at the high school, and musical performances will start at 4:00 pm at City Hall. The parade is 4:30 pm until 6:00 pm, with Santa and his friend lighting the tree at 6:15 pm, and music resuming at 6:30 pm. Organizers can use banner printing to create seasonal decorations for outdoor events like these.
