South Auburn is now home to a new Italian restaurant, Bella’s Bistro and Bar, run by Joyce and Larry Ward. The Wards took over the premises formerly occupied by Auburn Wine and Caviar on A Street SE.
The restaurant was given the nickname Joyce had in her childhood. She explains that her grandmother was called ‘Tingatella’, and her father used to call Joyce ‘Bella Tingatella’. For a short time, Ward owned a Kent restaurant called Tingatella’s with her sister. Now, the nickname ‘Bella’ designates the new Auburn eatery. When a new company like this opens its doors, owners can help promote their new establishment by distributing Promotional Products.
While Larry greets the customers, Joyce is on duty in the kitchen. She is inspired by her childhood, when she worked in the delis her father had on Long Island during the day, and enjoyed her mother’s Italian cooking at home at night. With that background, she makes everything from scratch at the new restaurant, from ziti, to lasagna, to chicken parmesan, along with pepper-and-sausage sandwiches.
Bella’s also has a full-service bar where the Wards have come up with signature drinks such as the ‘A-Ward Winning Martini’ and ‘Bella Bella Royale’.
For patrons with a sweet tooth, Bella’s offers the Italian classic cannoli, along with other treats like tiramisu, New York-style cheesecake, and a decadent cake called ‘Death by Chocolate’.
