Lighting Auburn: events for the holidays
Auburn is planning to light up for the holidays with a day of special events.
The fun starts with the Lighted Santa Parade. Floats and participating units will line up at Auburn High School, starting at 3.30 pm, while City Hall will be the backdrop for live music, beginning at 4.00 pm. The parade begins at 4.30 pm.
The parade is a community event, and businesses, non-profits, and families are all encouraged to participate. They can enter as walkers, or drive cars or floats, though there are specific guidelines for entries. This is a lighted parade, with emphasis on lights. People may not simply put a string of lights on their vehicle, they must try to create a festive display. In addition, no one may put a Santa Claus on their vehicle, or use a Santa inflatable, as the real Santa Claus is going to arrive later.
After the parade, City Hall will be the place to be to watch the annual tree lighting ceremony, and to welcome the Jolly Old Elf himself. Santa is looking for a helper to light the tree. Residents are invited to nominate a child who lives in Auburn, and who is between the ages of 5 and 9, for the job.
The festivities take place on December 7. Anyone who wants to participate in the parade needs to register by November 29. Seasonal decorations for events like this can be created using banner printing methods.
