Auburn has announced a traditional event with a twist.
The city's annual Santa Parade will be lighted this year, and will allow walking entries, horses, tractors, floats, and various motorized units, all of which will parade down Main Street. After the procession, everyone is invited to City Hall, where the tree will be lit, and Santa Claus will pay a visit to the event.
However, the parade and tree lighting are only part of the day's festivities. Events begin at 2.30 pm, with a visit to Washington Elementary, where visitors can munch cookies and enjoy cocoa with Mrs. Claus, who will also read stories to the youngsters. Visitors can also take part in Christmas craft projects and cookie decorating. Chris Anderson and Joey Jewell, who are with the Christmas Crooners, will perform at city hall before the parade.
People taking part in the parade need to pre-register, as there will be no same-day registration. Parade participants will start to assemble at 3.00 pm, on E Street NE. Although businesses are assessed a $50 fee for entry, non-profit groups of all kinds, as well as bands, drill teams, cheer leaders, dance teams, school groups, scout troops, and families may take part without charge.
The fun runs from 2:30 pm until 4:30 pm on December 5. The parade proper starts at 4.30 pm. Banner printing can be used to provide seasonal decorations in quantity for outdoor events like this.
