En Vogue is the brainchild of Thomas McElroy and Denzil Foster, songwriters and producers who wanted to create a group of singers who would replicate powerhouse outfits like The Supremes. The producers auditioned over 3,000 hopefuls, and settled on Maxine Jones, Cindy Herron, and Dawn Robinson, before adding Terry Ellis, creating the first incarnation of En Vogue. The idea was to enlist singers who were not only powerful vocalists, but also able to sing lead or backup, switching roles as necessary.
The formula was a hit, and their first album “Born to Sing” dropped in 1990, and was eventually certified Platinum. The single “Hold On” was on that disk, and soared to No 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart, and No. 1 on the Hold Dance Music/Club play and the R&B singles charts. Over their career, En Vogue has sold 20 million records worldwide. A review says:
“The talented trio . . . [performed] . . . with flawless vocals and tight harmonies. . . . effortlessly . . . [blended] their live singing with synchronized dance moves—a true testament to their mastery of the stage.”
En Vogue will be at the Muckleshoot Events Center in Auburn on November 20. Organizers of events like this can promote them with advertising created by using poster printing.
