Fun run set for Auburn

A fun event is scheduled for Auburn, and everyone can take part.

The Almost 5K Poker Fun Run & Walk is being held in person and is appropriate for everyone, no matter their age or skill level.

Participants in a poker run follow a specific route with five or seven different stops. They collect a playing card at each, and when they arrive at the end of the run, the person who has the best “poker hand” wins. The course in Auburn will follow the large loop in Les Gove Park. In order to draw a poker hand, participants will have to make five loops in order to choose five cards. The run gets its name because it is “almost” five kilometers long, coming in at just 1,138 feet short of the full distance.

To decrease contact, the playing cards will be touched only by Poker Run volunteers. They will also maintain a safe distance from the runners. Events like this are more enjoyable when organizers use banner printing to create signage marking the course.

The Poker Fun Run takes place from 7:00 pm until 8:30 pm on August 12, at Les Gove Park on 9th Street SE. People who register early will save on the fees. Those who register by July 15 pay $12, while those that register between July 16 and August 10 will pay $15. No registrations will be accepted on August 11 or 12. Early registrants will receive a participation medal and a T-shirt.
