Fun run on the way to Auburn

An August run in Auburn will be a fun event for people of all ages and abilities.

The Almost 5K Poker Fun Run & Walk takes place in Les Gove Park, and uses the park’s “big loop.” A runner who goes around the loop five times has covered close to five kilometers, hence the name of the event. Five kilometers is approximately 16,400 feet, so five loops are short of this by just 1,138 feet.

Each time a runner completes a loop, they will stop, draw a card, and continue drawing a card each time until they have a five-card poker “hand.” The runners with the top eight hands will win awards, which will be announced later via email.

Walkers and people with strollers are welcome to participate, but children who are not in strollers must be race participants.

The registration fee is $12 for those who sign up on or before next Wednesday, July 10, and this registration includes a participation medal and T-shirt. People taking advantage of early registration must pay at the time. From July 11 through August 7, the fee is $15. Onsite registration the day of the race is $20.

The fun run is scheduled for Friday, August 9, from 7:00 am until 8:30 pm. Les Gove Park is at 910 9th Street SE. Anyone who feels ill on the day or thinks they might have had COVID exposure is asked to stay home. Organizers of outdoor events like this often use banner printing to create festive signage.
