The Doobie Brothers and the Robert Cray Band will be appearing soon at Auburn’s White River Amphitheatre, and the show will no doubt bring back a lot of memories.
The Doobie Brothers got started in San Jose, California, in 1970. No one person has been with the band throughout its history, but several members have left and returned, including founders Tom Johnson and Patrick Simmons, who are on the current tour.
The group had its greatest success in the 1970s, when it seemed like a new Doobie Brothers song was hitting the charts every week. Among the most memorable are “China Grove,” “Black Water,” and the iconic “Listen to the Music.” Their breakthrough came with their second album, 1972’s “Toulouse Street.” A review says:
“Their show closer, as usual, was ‘Listen to the Music.’ It always turns into a joyous celebration of community . . . ”
The Robert Cray Band is touring with the Doobies. Cray is a native of Georgia who formed the Robert Cray Band in the 1970s in Oregon. In 1986 his fourth album, “Strong Persuader” won a Grammy, and he frequently opened for artists like Eric Clapton. He was also building a career as a solo artist.
The bands will be at Auburn’s White River Amphitheatre on September 6. Organizers of events like this will often choose to work with poster printing to create advertising.
