Auburn schedules open houses on SR 164 fixes

The City of Auburn, the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT), and members of the Muckleshoot Tribe have scheduled open houses to discuss the State Route 164 project.

East Auburn, Enumclaw, the Muckleshoot Reservation, and other areas are most easily reached via SR 164, which has seen increasing traffic, including freight haulers, making the drive more difficult.

The SR 164 project aims to develop a long-term, affordable solution to the problems of congestion and safety, and at the same time, take into account projected future growth.

The project has three main objectives: first, it hopes to reduce congestion, and thereby shorten travel times. This, in turn, will shorten lines of vehicles that currently block intersections and driveways, and sometimes make it difficult for emergency responders to get through.

Second, the project seeks to increase safety by reducing the potential for accidents. This includes examining options to make the road safer for bikes, buses, trucks, cars, and people with varying degrees of mobility.

Third, the project hopes to allow for growth in the region, particularly in Enumclaw, Auburn, parts of King County, and on the Muckleshoot Reservation..

In order to get community input about the project, WSDOT, Auburn, and the Tribe held an open house recently. A second meeting is scheduled for next Thursday, February 7, from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm, at Chinook Elementary School on Auburn Way South. Officials conducting meetings like this can use flyer printing to disseminate information.
