Auburn goes to the dogs

A run is coming up in Auburn for dogs and their pet parents.

The Dog Trot 3K/5K Fun Run is on the schedule, although the Petpalooza that usually accompanies it will not be held this year. However, organizers hope to bring some of the components of the festival to the run.

The Fun Run is a family-friendly event and offers participants the choice between a 5K or a 3K. The flat course is suitable for all age groups, and is chip-timed; strollers are allowed. Rules governing participation include:

• Dogs must have current vaccinations
• Aggressive dogs are not allowed, nor are females in heat
• Only two dogs allowed per person
• Leashes must be a maximum of seven feet long; retractable leashes are not permitted
• Dogs must be at least six months old, and well-socialized
• Dog parents are responsible for cleaning up after their pets
• Participants should not attempt the run/walk unless they and their dogs are in good physical health

The Dog Trot is September 19, starting with an 8:00 am check-in, and the opening of onsite registration. Participants will need to be at the starting line, which is at Game Farm Park, by 9:15 am. The run/walk begins at 9:30 am, and ends at the same location. The route will close at 11:00 am, and the results will be posted between 11:00 am and 12:00 pm. Water for both people and dogs will be available on the race course. Banner printing can provide course markers for events like this.
