A popular race is returning to Colchester, giving participants a chance to run in somewhat unconventional surroundings.
The Colchester Causeway Race has been held for several years. The course starts in the city, and then follows gravel and dirt trails that lead onto the causeway. The structure is a narrow route that leads out in an arc onto Lake Champlain, so runners have water on both sides. Markers will let runners know where the turnaround point is, so they can start the trip back.
The course is flat, an out-and-back run over dirt and gravel trails, with some paved stretches. The entire causeway trail is about 11 miles in length, with four of them on the part of the trail that has water on both sides.
The trail welcomes runners, walkers, and even dogs, provided they are on a leash. It is one of the most popular attractions in Colchester. Since it is literally in the lake, runners will have closeup views of sailboats and other watercraft. People who are taking the race at a slower pace might like to slow down to observe the wildlife, or take a brief break just to look at the lake.
The Colchester Causeway Race is scheduled for Saturday, June 3. Organizers of major events like this can use poster printing to advertise the race, and post them in local businesses, with their permission.
