What's Happening in Colchester, VT…

A concert of classical music is set to take place in Colchester soon.

The Burlington Civic Symphony will perform under the direction of Kim Diehnelt, its Music Director. The program is “Symphony No. 3 in Eb major “The Rhenish,” by Robert Schumann; “En Saga” by Jean Sibelius; and the “Chanson de Matin” by Edward Elgar.

Robert Schumann composed his work in 1850. The symphony has five movements and the second describes the flowing Rhine River, giving the work its name.

Edward Elgar may be best known for his “Pomp and Circumstance Marches,” which are often played at graduations. His “Chanson de Matin,” which can be translated as “Morning Song,” is about three minutes in length.

Jean Sibelius is a well-known composer with more than 550 works to his credit. His best-known piece is probably “Finlandia.” He composed “En Saga,” a tone poem, between 1890 and 1892 and revised it in 1902. The title is sometimes translated into English as “A Legend,” “A Saga,” or “A Fairy Tale.” Some listeners say it describes a fantasy landscape.

The concert is co-sponsored by the Saint Michael's College Performing Arts Program. Faculty, students, and staff of St. Michael’s will be admitted free with a valid ID. Members of the public will be able to buy tickets online or at the performance.

The concert is scheduled for November 1 at the McCarthy Arts Center. When they plan events like this, organizers can use brochure printing to create programs for audiences.
