Colchester contest puts the fun in fundraising

An unusual event in Colchester will raise money to support an animal rescue in the area.

The 5th Annual Calcutta to support needy cats has been scheduled in Colchester. The event raises funds to support the operations of A Place for Grace Kitty Rescue, a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for neglected, abandoned, and abused cats. It provides a homely, nurturing environment for the kitties as they wait to find their forever families.

Money will be raised by those participating, who will purchase ping-pong balls to be placed in a bag and then drawn one by one. The money raised through the purchase of the balls will go to the charity. Balls for this event are $100, which includes brunch for two people.

Most Calcuttas are used in connection with sporting events, where the participants are supporting a team or individual athlete. They are especially popular in golf but can help generate interest in any sport or team.

A Place for Grace is in St. Albans, about 20 miles from Colchester, but welcomes adopters from throughout the area. The event is scheduled for Sunday, March 15 at 12.30 pm, at the American Legion Post in Colchester Village, a neighborhood in Colchester. When they are looking for a tool to announce events like this, organizers can use flyer printing to create handouts for local distribution.
