Iron Dogs called to Colchester

An upcoming event indicates that Colchester may be going to the dogs—in a good way.

The 2025 Green Mountain Iron Dog features an obstacle course approximately 1.5 miles long that simulates how police K9 teams would be deployed in a real-world situation. Challenges may include water crossings, guard rails, hills, swamps, walls, houses filled with smoke, shooting (with pellet guns), and more. When the plan events like this, organizers may work with banner printing to create course markers.

Military teams, police teams, and civilians are all invited to attend. There are two events scheduled, Iron Dog PRO and Iron DOG OPEN. Registration for the PRO event begins at 7.30AM, and the run begins at 8.00AM. This run is competitive and timed, and requires pre-registration, and is open to those 14 years of age and upwards.

Iron Dog OPEN is non-competitive, open to those 14 years of age and older. Registration starts at 12.00 pm.

A third event, the Iron Dog Junior course, is for those ages 7-13. Participants will follow the same course at the main event, but dog handlers in this age group must have a partner with them who is over 18 years of age.

A suspect search house, a timed 100-yard dash and a drug search house, open to police only, are planned.

The Iron Dog competition is scheduled for September 27 at Camp Dudley, situated at Kiniya, 1317 Camp Kiniya Road. Organizers remind participants to bring water.
