South American traditions event planned for Colchester

An important musical event is planned in Colchester.

The Lake Champlain Chamber Music Festival is the organizer of this year’s event, which focuses on Folklore. Artists from all over the world will bring their music and culture to Vermont to share. Most of the performances will be held at the Elley-Long Music Center in Colchester. Organizers of events like this often use brochure printing to create programs for them.

The festival begins with masterclasses in strings, taught by Peter Stumpf, Milena Pajaro-van de Stadt, and Robyn Bollinger. Stumpf is a cellist and is the Los Angeles Philharmonic’s former first cellist. Pajaro-van de Stadt is a violinist who appears regularly with orchestras around the world; and Bollinger is the Concertmaster of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. Audience members will be able to visit the classes and observe the lessons.

The festival features a presentation by Jin Kim, the father of Soovin Kim, the Festival’s Artistic Director, who will discuss “The Power of Folklore.” An immigrant from Korea, Jin will discuss Korean folk traditions and their impact on his family and pop culture in America.

The afternoon brings a program focused on South American traditions, bringing together the works of Martin Chambi, an Amerindian photographers, the poet Maria Negroni from Argentina, and the composers who were inspired by their works.

The festival kicks off August 17 with the String Masterclasses at 10.00 am, the presentation about folklore at 2.00 pm, and the concert at 3.30 pm. The festival runs through August 25.
