Race in Colchester helps Vermont remember

An upcoming race in Colchester will be a way of remembering a dark day in history.

The race is officially called “The Vermont Remembers 5K and 11K walk/run and 11k Ruck,” and is a way to remember the attacks of September 11, 2001.

Race Title: The Vermont Remembers 5k and 11k walk/run and 11k Ruck,” and offers several different races. There is a 5K, an 11K, an 11K Civilian Ruck for Individuals, an 11K Military Ruck for Individuals, an 11 K Civilian Ruck for Teams, an 11K Military Ruck for Teams, a Virtual 5K, and a Virtual 11K. “Ruck” is short for rucksack, and means that participants in this race will be running with a weight on their back. These packs resemble the type of gear miliary personnel use. Organizers of events like this can use banner printing to create course markers that are easy to see.

People who cannot be at the race in person may run a virtual race. They can run anywhere, following instructions that will be texted to them.

The event is scheduled for September 10, on National Guard Road in Colchester. Participants may begin picking up their packets at 8.00 am, and the opening ceremonies are scheduled for 8.40 am. All the races begin at 9.11 am. The entrée fee is $25 until September 1, registration on race day is $30. All proceeds go to support the Fallen Heroes Memorial Fund. The virtual race is September 11.
