A singer and songwriter known for his indie-folk style will appear in Burlington, a quick drive from Colchester.
Gregory Alan Isakov was born in South Africa and immigrated to the U.S. with his family in 1986, where his father started an electronic engineering business. By the time he was 16, the younger Isakov was playing in a small band based in Philadelphia, blending the folk and indie music genres using instruments such as the banjo and guitar.
After graduating from high school, Isakov relocated to Colorado to study horticulture at Naropa University. Throughout his college career he played music, and began performing at casual gigs as he worked as a gardener. His career as a professional musician started to blossom when he began touring with Kelly Joe Phelps, a blues and jazz musician.
To date, Isakov has dropped seven albums, including “Gregory Alan Isakov with the Colorado Symphony,” which, as the name implies, he recorded with the orchestra. His music has been featured throughout the media in various ways. McDonald’s used “Big Black Car” in its commercials, and Isakov donated the money to non-profit organizations that promote sustainable farming. Several television series, including “Californication,” have used his music. When he has downtime, Isakov can be found in his garden in Bolder, Colorado.
Isakov will be at The Flynn in Burlington on January 29. When events like this are planned, organizers can use flyer printing to create handouts to advertise in the local area.
