Sweeping Promises, a band that got together almost by accident, is coming to Brattleboro.
It was 2019, just before the world closed down, when two musicians met, almost by accident, in the basement of a college science building. At the time, Lira Mondal was a music major and Caufield Schnug knocked on the door and asked if she was in a band.
Mondal was raised listening to all kinds of music, and was eager to develop her own style. The two came up with the song “Hunger for a Way Out” in what seemed like minutes. It became the title track on the album of the same name. The song is about the longing so many people, especially young people share, to get out of the cycle of working just to pay rent.
Mondal, who is a classically trained vocalist and bassist, is the force behind the duo, reminding some listeners of the B-52s. Caufield Schnug, who is a multi-instrumentalist, is the other half of the partnership. They first met in Arkansas years before the basement recording started them on the road to stardom. Their second album, “Good Living is Coming For You,” was released last month.
Album reviews have been stellar, but the two are eager to return to live performing, having been sidelined by the pandemic for two years. They will be at The Stone Church in Brattleboro on August 11. Organizers of events like this can use poster printing to create attractive advertising for the concert.
