Major musical event in Brattleboro

An organization in Brattleboro is going to perform one of the most monumental works in classical music—Wagner’s “Ring.”

TUNDI will perform “Der Ring des Nibelungen” (“The Ring of the Nibelung”), usually shortened to “The Ring,” consisting of four separate operas that total almost 20 hours of music. The four, in order, are “Das Rheingold,” “Die Walküre,” “Siegfried,” and “Götterdämmerung.” They are based loosely on figures found in Norse sagas, heroic German legend, and the Nibelungenlied, which is the story of a magic golden ring, incestuous love, and the ultimate downfall of the gods. The upcoming event is particularly exciting because the TUNDI production is the only complete “Ring” being performed in the United States in 2025.

The challenges of this music mean that many singers avoid the repertoire entirely, while others specialize in Wagner. TUNDI was established because the organization understood the need for a space for Wagnerian singers to learn and grow. They may be revisiting a familiar role or learning a new one. TUNDI gives the artists a chance to explore these works and present them to an audience.

The organization presents everything from short Wagner concerts to full operas. The relatively compact Latchis Theater, which seats 750, means the audience can experience these huge works close up.

TUNDI will perform the operas on August 18 (“Das Rheingold”), August 20 (“Die Walküre”), August 22 (“Siegfried”), and August 24 (“Götterdämmerung”). Productions like this can be advertised with spectacular Posters, which organizers can have made at Print shops.
