The dazzling music of the Broque Era is coming to Brattleboro.
The Ensemble Amphion Baroque will be performing a chamber music concert entitled “Grace and Grandeur: Baroque Masterpieces from France and Germany,” at which they will feature pieces by Johann Joachim Quants, Georg Philipp Telemann, Louis-Antoine Dornel, Marin Marais, François Couperin, and others.
The Baroque Period is generally considered to be between 1600 and 1750, and it represents a turning point in music, when composers began to write in a certain key, a practice that continues to this day. In addition to those artists listed, major Baroque composers include Antonio Vivaldi, whose “Four Seasons” remains popular; George Frideric Handel; and one of the greatest composers of any era, Johann Sebastian Bach.
Jesse Lepkoff, who plays the flute and recorder, leads the ensemble. Other members include Owen Wattkins on the recorder and baroque oboe; Carol Lewis playing the viola da gamba; Na’ama Lion, playing the baroque flute; and harpsichordist Marina Minkin. Lepkoff is based in Vermont, and the others are world-class artists who specialize in Baroque music.
The group performs using period instruments and techniques informed by their knowledge of the practices used during this period. Their expertise and dedication to Baroque music brings this exceptional era to life.
The concert takes place October 25, at the Brattleboro Museum & Art Center. Organizers of events like this may want to use flyer printing to create handouts to distribute in the local area, announcing the performance.
