Popular festival has new name and location

The “Tumbling Leaves” event, one of the biggest Square and Round Dancing Festivals in the region, has moved and will now be held in Brattleboro, complete with a new name - the “Autumn Leaves Festival.”

During a square dance, participants follow a pattern set by a caller, who tells the dancers which step they are to do next. The music for a square dance could be from any genre including folk, classical, rock, film scores, Broadway tunes, or country.

There are square dance clubs and events throughout the world, such as conventions, cruises, and resorts, and they are designed to be fun and energetic.

The callers for the upcoming festival have decades of experience. They include Ken Ritucci, who is an Accredited CALLERLAB Caller-Coach who has called dances all over the world; Don Moger from Montreal, Canada, who has been dancing since 1975; Baltimore native Bill Harrison, who has been calling since 1985; and Ted Lizotte, a New Hampshire resident who started calling in 1988. The round dances will be called by Beverly Boudreau.

The Autumn Leaves Festival will be held October 20 and 21, at the Winston Prouty School on Austine Drive in Brattleboro. There will be dancing in the afternoon and evening on the first day, and all day on the second.
