The 2024 Solo Jazz Piano Festival includes not only the performances, but interviews with the performers, a Q&A session, and master classes.
The festival is designed with music lovers in mind, not just fans of piano music. Attendees will be able to hear six different pianists, who will also be discussing their relationship to jazz and music in general.
The new artists have not yet been announced, but the current headliners are Jacky Terrasson, Hey Rim Jeon, Nduduzo Makhathini, and Aaron Parks. AllMusic.com said of Terrasson:
“While he’s known for being adventurous, he’s no show off: his respect for music is evident.”
Hey Rim Jeon comes from Seoul, South Korea, and has been playing the piano since she was three. She is an Associate Professor at the Berklee School of Music, and released her CD, “Groovitude” in 2022.
Makhathini is South African, and in 2017, won the Best Jazz Artist award at the All-Africa Music Awards.
Parks is a Seattle native who studied at the Manhattan School of Music and toured with celebrated composer Terence Blanchard, making three albums with him.
The two-day festival is scheduled for April 19 and 20 at the Vermont Jazz Center, Brattleboro.
Organizers of events like this will often work with brochure printing services to create programs that highlight the artists’ biographies.
