Icy event for Brattleboro

The Brattleboro Museum & Art Center and Retreat Farm is presenting an unusual exhibit that celebrates the location of the community.

An outdoor exhibit called the “Artful Ice Shanties” celebrates creative ingenuity, artistic talent, and the history of the ice fishing that is done at Retreat Meadows, part of Retreat Farm. The Meadows are not only used for ice fishing, they are also perfect for skating in the winter and swimming in the summer. However, this exhibit celebrates ice fishing with a display of shanties. The shanties will be set up near Retreat Farm’s Farmhouse Square, where food trucks gather in summer.

This is the second year for the Artful Ice Shanties exhibit. Last year, more than 1,000 people came to the exhibit to enjoy shanties shaped like a seascape featuring a 3D octopus, a black die with dots in the shape of moons, and a huge iridescent fish. The trails at Retreat Farm were open for snowshoeing and hiking, and visitors skated at Retreat Meadows. They also visited animals including Carlos the ox and went cross-country skiing. This year, depending on COVID and the weather, even more attractions are planned. Banner printing can be used in outdoor settings like this to direct visitors around the area.

The Artful Ice Shanties exhibit will open February 19 and close February 27. The attraction is open from dawn to dusk. An awards ceremony is set for February 20 at 3.00 pm.
