From pancake breakfasts to live music, an upcoming event in Brattleboro has it all.
The 2024 Brattleboro Winter Carnival is a nine-day party that offers a variety of activities for everyone in the family. Among the treats are snowmobile rides, a glow skate, downhill skiing, and a bowling day.
One of the most anticipated (and sweetest) treats at the carnival is sugar-on-snow. A New England specialty, sugar-on-snow is made by packing real snow into cups and then drizzling maple syrup over it. It is usually served with a doughnut, or even pickles, to help cut the sweetness. One person who has handled the attraction says that 50 gallons might be used on what they call a “good day.”
Sugar-on-snow will only be available the first day of the carnival, from 12.00 noon until 2.00 pm, at Living Memorial Park. The Brattleboro Rotary Club is hosting the goodies, and a cup of snow and syrup is $5.
Another foodie’s delight is the upcoming chili cookoff, which will take place on the Thursday of the event, with music by Tobias Moore. There will be more music courtesy of the Windham Symphony, who will appear at the Latchis Theater, and chamber music at the Brattleboro Music Center. The Latchis will also be running a series of children’s movies called Kidsfest.
The Winter Carnival begins Saturday, February 17, and winds up Sunday, February 25. People attending events like this appreciate a schedule, which organizers will often create using flyer printing.
