A composer and percussionist who fell in love with the drums is set to perform in Brattleboro.
Jon Mueller, a native of Wisconsin, is active in the rock and experimental music genres. Thanks to his parents, he grew up with music, and took lessons in both piano and guitar as a child. However, he stopped both disciplines and turned to the drums, intrigued by a set a friend had inherited. He enjoyed drumming because the focus shifted from the melody to the rhythm. He also noted that no matter how a drummer strikes the drums and cymbals, he always enjoyed the sound. He soon began studying drums formally, beginning with a snare drum before going on to a complete set.
Chris Rosenau, a guitarist, met Mueller in the 1990s, and they formed a professional partnership. They were the founding members of several groups, and dropped their debut, “Unmap,” seeing it make it to No. 92 on the Billboard 200 chart.
In his career, Mueller has worked with numerous musicians such as Jack Wright, Jason Kahn, and James Plotkin. In 2003, he made a shift in style and started experimenting with placing vibrating drums on top of his speakers. The change can be heard on much of his work.
Mueller will appear at the Epsilon Spires in Brattleboro on March 29. Events such as this can be publicized successfully when organizers use poster printing.
