Cult film to be shown in Brattleboro

A film of a very unusual concert will be shown in Brattleboro.

The 1972 film “Pink Floyd: Live at Pompeii” was directed by Adrian Maben, and features the English rock band performing in Pompeii. The outfit gave their usual spectacular performance in the ancient Roman amphitheater, but there was no audience, unless ghosts of ancient Pompeiians count. Instead, the film offers music such as “Saucerful of Secrets” and “Echoes,” and brief interviews subjects such as the making of “The Dark Side of the Moon.”

According to the director, Adrien Maben, the film was intended to be:

“ . . . an anti-Woodstock,……above all, there should be the notion of silence, and the images of Pompeii would speak for themselves with the music. . .”

A 91-minute director’s cut of the film was released in 2003, and that is the version that will be shown at the event in Brattleboro. After the film, a pop-up, three-course dinner will be served. The menu, which has been created by Great Falls Harvest, has been inspired by the food of Pompeii and will be paired with regional wines. When events like this are scheduled, organizers can use flyer printing to create both Menus, and informative material about the film.

The film will be shown at Epsilon Spires in downtown Brattleboro on November 5, with dinner to follow. Conflicting times are mentioned, so anyone interested should double check with the theater.
