Celebration of circus arts comes to Brattleboro

For anyone who has ever felt the need to “run off and join the circus,” an evening is coming up in Brattleboro to recognize an organization that helps people do just that.

The New England Center for Circus Arts is turning 15, and is planning a special event to recognize everyone who has supported the center, which in turn has allowed it to flourish and develop into a main cultural and economic driver for the state of Vermont. The center has also helped thousands realize fulfill their ambitions to work as professional circus performers.

Attendees at the event will meet with others who share their interests, enjoy food and drink, and watch circus performers. They will also learn how NECCA has grown into the institution it is today. They will be able to tour the building and take part in a ceremony installing a donor plaque. NECCA is now 15, but the Trapezium, a special feature of the building, is five.

The Trapezium is a custom-built space that is dedicated specifically to teaching circus arts. Equipment in the space includes ropes, flying trapezes, and more.

The main event, scheduled for September 30 at 5:00 pm, will be held outdoors, but those taking tours inside will be asked to wear masks. Organizers will advise attendees of any changes in health protocols. NECCA is on Crier Drive, and events like this are great places for people with similar interests to exchange information and Business Cards.
