Paula Poundstone began doing stand-up in Boston in 1979, taking advantage of open-mic nights. She took Greyhound buses across the country, stopping to perform at any comedy club that had an open-mic night. She settled in San Francisco where she continued her stand-up career at local clubs.
Lightning stuck in 1984, when Robin Williams saw her and suggested she relocate to Los Angeles. When Williams was the host of an episode of “Saturday Night Live,” she was his guest. She appeared in film and on talk shows. Finally, in 1989, she was honored with the American Comedy Award as “Best Female Stand-Up Comic”.
She won a CableACE Award for her “Cats, Cops and Stuff” special on HBO, and TIME Magazine called it one of “The 5 Funniest Stand-Up Specials Ever.” She has continued touring and performing across the country. A review says:
“What really makes Paula Poundstone’s act unique, though, is its refreshing, ego-free honesty. She doesn’t drop names . . . and her stories spring from experiences that nearly all of us have shared . . . This is ‘we’re all in this together’ humor.”
Paula Poundstone will be at the Latchis Theater, located at 50 Main Street in Brattleboro on May 3. Organizers who plan shows like this often use poster printing to create advertising for them.
