The Brattleboro VA Clinic will be the location of an upcoming concert design especially for them.
The Woodwind Quintet of the Vermont Symphony Orchestra will appear at the clinic to play a program saluting veterans and service personnel. The music has been chosen from several American traditions and will include “Rodeo” by Aaron Copland; a medley of popular songs from the era known as the “Gay 90s,” (1890s, that is); and John Philip Sousa marches.
“The Entertainer” by Scott Joplin is also on the program—the song is probably the most famous example of ragtime and was used extensively in the film “The Sting.” To finish out the program, the Quintet plans to play the “Quintette” by Hedwige Chretien, a transcription of the First Suite in E Flat for Military Band by Gustav Holst, and music from the hit film, “Pirates of the Caribbean.” Brochure printing can be used to create programs for events like this.
The members of the ensemble are Alan Parshley on the horn, bassoonist Rebecca Eldredge, Karen Luttik on clarinet, oboist Sherwood Wise, and Anne Janson on the flute. The Vermont Symphony Orchestra was established with the idea of being a state-wide group and gave its first concert in 1936. Unlike most orchestras, which are based in a single city, the VSO tours the state, performing in any venue where an audience gathers.
The concert will be held outdoors, and will be canceled if the weather is inclement. In addition, COVID-19 guidelines will be observed.
