A fun musical event is returning to Brattleboro.
The 17th Northern Roots Festival will help usher in 2024. This perennially popular concert showcases a variety of traditional music genres, including French Canadian, English, Scottish, Irish, Shetland, and others. The details of the festival are still in the planning stage, but organizers note that the schedule will be like festivals held in the past. That means there will be workshops on Saturday afternoon, and a concert on Saturday evening. On Sunday, there will be three sessions in the afternoon – an Irish session, French Canadian session, and pub sing – all held at the River Garden Marketplace downtown.
Some of the artists confirmed are Eight Feet Tall, who will bring tunes suitable for dancing, and Triga, which is strongly influenced by Scandinavian music and will have instruments including the bouzouki, fiddle, and nyckelharpa.
Also on the bill for the concert are fiddler Cedar Stainstreet and flutist Jake Grieco. The duo met in 2022, and discovered they both loved Irish dance music. They are experienced musicians, and blend their instruments to create a crisp, soulful sound. Vocalist Amanda Witman will perform, and a new version of the “Traddleboro” ensemble, a changing group of local musicians, will create and perform music just for this event.
This year’s Northern Roots Festival is January 27 and 28 at the Brattleboro Music Center. When events like this are planned, organizers can use brochure printing to create programs for audience members.
