Ball with a difference in Brattleboro

An upcoming event in Brattleboro will draw (or cross) the lines between science fiction and fantasy.

Consider the Sourcerors is hosting Bella’s Bartok’s 5th Annual Strange Ones Ball, with the theme “Sci-Fi vs. Fantasy.” The fun lasts for two days, with a different band appearing each evening. The first day is for science fiction fans, with Consider the Source performing. The second night is devoted to fantasy, and the DiTrani Brothers will provide the music.

Bella’s Bartok (the name of the band is a play on the name of composer Bela Bartok), is based in Northampton, Massachusetts, and plays music that has been inspired by artists like Oingo Boingo and Tom Waits. The band presents energetic live shows that Asher Putnam, the frontman, describes as:

“. . . a mix of The Nightmare Before Christmas and the Rocky Horror Picture Show.”

The other two bands promise equally energetic performances. Consider the Source is a trio of instrumentalists—drummer, bassist, guitarist—who blend Middle Eastern and other world music with funk and jazz, over their own rock sound. Their approach creates a blend of style and culture.

The DiTrani Brothers are known for their skill at playing jazz and ragtime, and their original songs, which are often about today’s dystopian society.

The dates of the parties are December 30 and December 31 at the Stone Church. Organizers of events like these can easily create advertising by using poster printing.
