City of Herndon hosts new downtown funfest

Herndon city leaders have scheduled a new spring festival to unite residents and vendors in an event centered on engagement and creativity.

The City of Herndon Department of Parks and Recreation has announced Polar Heat on Lynn Street for mid-May. The new city initiative is in its planning stages, and leaders are inviting participation from area craft vendors, entertainers, food vendors, sponsors, and volunteers. The city’s website describes the overall aim of the event:

“Polar Heat on Lynn Street is powered by the people of Herndon—our residents, volunteers, businesses, and performers who make this event come alive. There are many ways to get involved, and we want you there.”

Preliminary plans include the placement of two performance stages on Lynn Street, able to accommodate small bands, dance groups, and street artists. Booth spaces for vendors are limited but open to artisans, crafters, and related small businesses. Vendors must supply their own tent, display setup, and payment system. Volunteers can get involved by assisting with setup/breakdown, guest assistance, and hospitality. Lastly, various levels of sponsorship are available for businesses that wish to connect with attendees. Poster printing is often useful at public events.

It is important to note that applications are required through the Parks and Recreation Department for all the above participant types.

Polar Heat on Lynn Street will be held on Saturday, May 16, on Lynn Street. Those wishing to get involved in any capacity may refer to the official website for more information and applications.
