For those who find the holidays are not complete without a boat parade, the Alexandria area may enjoy two of them on one day during the Alexandria’s Biggest Holiday Weekend coming in early December.
More than 50 highly decorated boats will be floating down one mile of the Potomac River shoreline in the 22nd Annual Alexandria Holiday Boat Parade. Prizes will be awarded in 10 categories including Most Spirited Crew, Hardiest Soul, Thinking Outside the Box, Most Holiday Cheer, Best Theme, Sailboat, Powerboat, and Best of Alexandria Show.
Dockside activities will begin at 2:00 pm at the Old Alexandria Waterfront. At 5:30 pm, the parade will begin at the Alexandria City Marina, and travel along Old Town Alexandria’s waterfront.
Alexandria Holiday Boat Parade of Lights will be Saturday, December 3.
In nearby Washington D.C., the District’s 30th Holiday Boat Parade will take place the same day down the river passing District Pier. More than 60 boats are expected to parade through Washington Channel at 7:00 pm.
Activities include live music, s’mores, ornament and face painting, ice skating, fire pits, and winter drinks, all taking place from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm at The Wharf. Visitors may also enjoy a glowing 40-foot Christmas Tree. Santa will be available for pictures.
Pictures taken this early in the season can be taken to nearby Stationery printers to become Holiday Cards.
A Fireworks Salute will be at 8:00 pm, with live music from 8:15 pm to 9:00 pm.
