Old Town holds speed and style festival

Burke & Herbert Bank will be presenting the Old Town Festival of Speed and Style in mid-May.

Alexandria attendees will get to enjoy a mix of sports cars made during the 1950s through the 1980s that have connections with Sebring 12-hour and 24-hour Le Mans endurance racing. Other cars on display will include unusual, rare, unique, and exotic modern vehicles known for their elegance, performance, and speed.

More than 40 Old Town merchants will be presenting demonstrations and displays that show the town's style, art, and fashion sense.

Awards for the car displays will include the Founder's, Spirit of the Road, Rolling Sculpture, Timeless Elegance, Spirit of Le Mans, and the Grand Touring.

Proceeds from the event will go to Community Lodgings and ALIVE! The former is an organization that provides transitional housing for the homeless, affordable housing for low-income families, and youth education programs). The latter is an interfaith nonprofit that also provides temporary housing and food for the homeless. Volunteers will be wearing white T-shirts sporting the event's graphic design.

The third annual High-Octane Ball will take place the night before from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm at Belle Haven Country Club, 6023 Fort Hunt Road. This year's theme will be Austin Powers-style 1960s retro glamour.

The Old Town Festival of Speed & Style will take place on King Street's 200 - 400 blocks, and from North Fairfax to North Royal on Sunday, May 19 from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.
