International flavors as Alexandria food event returns

More than 40 countries will be represented in the Around the World Cultural Food Festival, which will be returning to Alexandria for its eighth year towards the end of August.

The one-day event will feature folk music, dance, food, art, and fashion, and guests may experience traditions and customs as they browse through an ethnic artisans’ and crafters’ area.

Among the more than 100 participating merchandise vendors selling handmade items will be A Wee Bit of Scotland, Zana de Mexico, Queen of Shadezzz, Perfect Henna Tattoo, and Native Buffalo Spirit. Other vendors will be selling teas, butter, jewelry, sea glass, soap, scented candles, bonsai trees, cards, and jerky.

Only one food vendor will be allowed per country. Food will be available for purchase from vendors representing China, Egypt, Laos, Taiwan, Guyana, Peru, Turkey, Jamaica, Thailand, Italy Malaysia, Korea, Mexico, Greece, Vietnam, Cambodia, Japan, and Pakistan. Dessert vendors will include such businesses as Yummy Food Corner, Tysons Creamery LLC, and Toimoi Bakery.

Stationery printers often use pictures of dancers in traditional costumes for their around-the-world notecard sets. The event will take place rain or shine, admission will be free, and pets are welcome.

The Around the World Cultural Food Festival will take place Saturday, August 24 from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm at Oronoco Bay Park, 100 Madison Street in Old Town Alexandria.
