Ballyshaners hold halfway festival

Alexandria’s Ballyshaners (Gaelic for old towners) will be holding their Halfway to St. Patrick’s Day Annual Irish Festival in mid-September.

The festival will be a fundraising event for the town’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade that usually comes in mid-March and a day to celebrate Irish culture and history. This year, the St. Patrick’s Day Parade has been moved to this festival, making it the Halfway to St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

Thousands of attendees are expected to turn out and experience vendors selling Irish wares, jewelry, and crafts. Community non-profits will be there getting information out to the public about their missions, services, hours of operations, and locations. Commercial vendors will be selling their services and products.

Businesses that attend events such as this often bring Promotional Products to entice passers-by to stop and buy their goods and services.

Entertainment will include Irish dancers from local dance schools, pipe bands, and, of course, the parade. The event raises money mainly through sales at the beer truck and donations.

Ballyshaners were originally a small group of volunteers that got together back in 1980 to organize the first Old Alexandria Saint Patrick’s Day Parade.

Halfway to St. Patrick’s Day Celebration will be at Waterfront Park (between Prince and King Streets in Old Alexandria) on Saturday, September 17 from noon to 6:00 pm. Festivities will take place rain or shine.
