Alexandria’s ninth annual Film Festival will present films from around the United States and the world. Attendees can meet the filmmakers and directors, and some selected screenings will be free.
Winners of the drawing for a premier screening of this coming year’s PBS series Mercy Street will be guests for the first evening’s entertainment. Entry Forms are posted on the Extraordinary Alexandria website.
The All Festival Passes, costing $45, are now available and include access to all screenings on nights two and three, and admission to the closing reception and awards ceremony that will be held the last evening of the event. Organizers strongly suggest purchasing the passes early because there are a limited number of tickets available.
The Alexandria Film Festival selects those films that highlight economic, social, and environmental issues. Other issues it champions are agricultural, cultural and architectural concerns. Entries will be judged in two categories: short films and feature length. An award of $300 will be given in Best of Show, $200 for the Jury Prize, and $100 for the audience’s favorite. Winners will want to have pictures taken for possible poster printing.
Former winners have gone on to win other festivals. One such winner, ‘Alive Inside’, also won the Audience Favorite award at the 2014 Sundance Festival, and the 2007 AFF Grand Jury award-winning ‘War Dance’ was nominated for the 2008 Academy Award. Last year’s Foreign Language Award winner ‘Silent Tears’ went on to win international awards in London and Norway.
The festival will be November 5 through November 8 AMC at the Hoffman 22 Theaters Bentley Central Library.Get a Free Quote for Forms
