Alexandria prepares for St. Patrick's Day

The 34th annual St. Patrick's Day Parade is taking place this March in Alexandria, hosted by The Ballyshaners, Inc.

This year's theme is ‘Women of Irish Heritage’ and the Grand Marshall will be Laureen O'Neill James.

The day will start off with a classic car show on Pitts Street, which gets underway at at 9:00 am with judging taking place an hour later. Those who win in their categories will be asked to join the parade.

The car display will be followed by the Fun Dog Show at Market Square, which will be hosted by the Alexandria Animal Welfare League. Participants are encouraged to dress their dogs in Irish costumes.

In advance of the parade, three fundraisers have been scheduled. The last of them is being held on February 22 at Paddy Barry's from 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm, with a suggested donation of $10.

On the day before the parade, an event at the Holiday Inn and Suites will install the Grand Marshall and will also honor sponsors and volunteers. This will be held on March 6 beginning at 7:00 pm. Tickets are $80 and guests will enjoy a cocktail hour and a buffet dinner.

In advance of participating in the Alexandria parade, many local businesses may invest in banner printing services to highlight their name.

The St. Patrick's Day Parade will be held on King Street on March 7 starting at 12:30 pm.
