Alexandria area event honors veterans and service dogs

A night of fundraising and entertainment is planned to help raise funds for an organization that trains service dogs for veterans and others with disabilities.

‘Side by Side: An Evening with Veterans and Service Dogs’ is an event with talent provided by nonprofit veterans’ organizations and others. The humor will be provided by standup comics from the Armed Services Arts Partnership, live music from Operation Encore, and the Rockville, MD Magruder High School JROTC Color Guard and Drill Team is scheduled to perform.

A live auction is also included in the festivities, and refreshments will be available throughout the night. All proceeds will benefit Canine Companions for Independence (CCI), a nonprofit that has trained service dogs for those in need for over 40 years. Businesses, local clubs and individuals interested in raising money for the organization through the sale of relevant Promotional Products or other fundraising ideas can learn how to begin by visiting the CCI website.

The event takes place on January 20 from 7:00 PM – 10:00 PM at the National Press Club on 529 14th Street Northwest in Washington. Casual dress is appropriate, and balconies are available for any veterans that would feel more comfortable in a quieter area. Admission is $50 each, $25 for veterans, active duty members and members of nonprofits supporting service dogs or veterans. The purchase of the ticket includes one free drink for a general admission ticket and two free drinks for veterans. Contact FriendsOfNigel@gmail.com for sponsorship opportunities.
