Cottonwood Heights is about to turn 10 years old, and is inviting residents to a birthday party.
The young city is planning two events to mark this special occasion, and asks that residents turn out for both.
The first event will be held at the Butler Middle School Auditorium. The highlight will be a video that features a review of the community's history, going back to the period when the first pioneers arrived at the Salt Lake Valley. The presentation will also discuss the process by which the city was founded, and take a look at future endeavors as well.
The Cottonwood Heights Community Orchestra and the Brighton High School Madrigal Choir will both be on hand at this first event to provide evening music. Artwork by local students, as well as historic photos, will also be on display.
The second event takes place the following day, when residents are invited to take the children to a carnival at the Cottonwood Heights Recreational Center. Activities on the schedule include ice skating, swimming, and face painting. Guests can enjoy popcorn, hot dogs, yogurt, and cookies available in limited quantities.
The first event is slated for 7:00 pm tomorrow, January 16, and the second with follow between 6:00 pm and 9:00 pm this Saturday, January 17. City officials could work with a banner printing company to devise a festive piece in order to decorate the auditorium for the first event.
